Land of mine (2015)

Wonderful movie. It's 1946, right after the end of WWII. German soldiers, actually no more than a bunch of boys, are sent to Denmark to clean the coast where thousands of mines had been installed by German soldiers during the war. What kind of environment do they find? How are they treated? It is fair? Friendship is one of the themes of the movie.
When they arrive at the beach, they are confronted with the real job. The sergeant Carl is sent to take care of them, but he sees them as enemies. Really well played and surprisingly rich of meaning, the movie shows you a different perspective about War, where the weaker is the one who suffers. Beautiful shots! Intense movie!

A Separation (2011)

A beautiful movie about Arabic reality. Divorce is the main them and they ably capture all the different perspective. The dad is faced with several problems and among them, there are his dad's illness and his wife's decision to leave the family. The wife, afraid of the daily problems of an Arabic country, decides to leave the family, with or without their daughter, Termeh. During this process, the hard daily life in an Arabic country is shown, interfering often with the movie plot. The movie received an Award and is really well directed. Watch this movie, it is a perfect resume of what a divorce is, in everybody perspective!

Adam's Apples (2005)

Today's movie is a black black black black comedy, easy to understand and with a beautiful picture, Adam's Apple brings to the watcher a mix of feelings, however the final taste, in my opinion, is rather sweet than bitter. Ivan is a Danish Lutheran bishop and all sorts of people are sheltered in his countryside church. The movie begins with the arrive of Adam, neo-nazi not really interested in doing good. As soon as they arrive at the church, Adam receives a task (to cook an apple pie) and all the turbulence along the movie rotates around that main objective. The main characteristic of the movie is Ivan's constant look toward goodness, a feature that affects all characters. Not conventional and not for everyone, this movie is a must see.

This Boy's Life (1993)

To begin this blog I decided to discuss Leonardo DiCaprio's first movie. My respect for him only increases after the movie, since teen he was amazing. Toby(Leonardo) lives alone with his mom, Caroline, and seems to have a strong a good relationship with her. With no clear plan, they decided to move to another city and there Caroline meets a new guy, Dwight(Robert De Niro). He is charmer, sweet and soon catches Caroline's heart, however, Toby doesn't receive his new stepfather as well as his mother. Based on an autobiography, the movie is capable of transmitting, in a genuine and realistic way, several feelings on Toby, Caroline and Dwight relationship. I love movies that evolves following a natural path, this is one of those! Very good! A masterpiece.
